GARDAI have smashed two illegal drugs networks after a major crackdown in Co Donegal, donegaldaily.com can reveal.
They seized cannabis in raids in Killybegs and Ballyshannon after an undercover operation lasting several weeks.
A number of arrests were made and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
Resin with a street value of €4,000 was seized in a planned search of a house in Ballyshannon on Saturday.
And in Killybegs gardai stopped and searched a man driving a car in the town on the same day. Cannabis with a street value of €550 was seized in that operation.
Sources say detectives have been keeping a number of people in the south and west of the county under surveillance for several weeks and the operation was aimed at breaking up a drugs network in the area.
“The amounts were significant,” said one insider.
“A great deal of work went into these operations which were aimed at disrupting a larger network of dealers in the county.
“A great deal of surveillance was involved and this is a major success for gardai,” added the source.
A Garda spokesperson said today that investigations are continuing.
