HARTE LAUNCHES SCATHING ATTACK ON MCCONALOGUE OVER CHILD BENEFIT CUTS

Senator Jimmy Harte has launched a scathing attack on Deputy Charlie McConalogue who has criticised the changes to Child Benefit in the forthcoming Budget.

The Labour party politician said he is astonished by the blatant hypocrisy shown by the Fianna Fail TD.

” I cannot believe that the FF party through Deputy Mc Conalogue have criticised the fact that there will be NO cuts to child benefit for the first two children and a leveling off of the subsequent children.

“This compares to the last Budget brought in by FF which was enthusiastically welcomed by him and his party. They cut €10 a month for the first two children and an additional €10 for the third child,” he said.

The Letterkenny Senator said that “as usual” Fianna Fail are trying to rewrite history.

He added “The reason that this Budget is dealing with difficult decisions is directly related to the policies and decisions brought in by his party over a period of 14 years.

“It’s dishonest to attempt to deflect blame from the Galway Tent brigade that has put this country into receivership .

“The new Government is attempting to regain our economic sovereignty that was sold down the river by Bertie and company.

“Deputy Mc Conalogue should stop the waffle and get real. It’s time to act responsibly.”
