Fine Gael’s Joe McHugh TD has confirmed to donegaldaily.com that Budget 2012 delivers his party’s general election pledge to increase mortgage interest relief to 30% for First Time Buyers who bought homes in 2004-2008.
Deputy McHugh told us: “Today the Minister for Finance has announced that mortgage interest relief will increase to 30% for First Time Buyers who bought homes in 2004-208.
“This follows up on a key commitment that Fine Gael made before the 2011 general election.
“It is made clear to me every day that so many people in Donegal are strangled by mortgage payments.
“I have been campaigning within Government on this issue for many months, and I made a submission to Minister Noonan on this issue as recently as last Wednesday.
“Many constituents have presented suggestions for the mortgage crisis to me in recent months, and I will continue to use those proposals for ongoing efforts to resolve the mortgages crisis. Today’s news is a positive step.”
