MacLOCHLAINN IN TV3 DUEL WITH FINE GAEL TD

DONEGAL North East Deputy Padraig MacLochlainn was involved in a political duel with a Fine Gael TD on TV3 last night.

Deputy MacLochlainn praised Limerick TD Kieran O’Donnell on Tonight with Vincent Browne for getting proposed cuts to disability payments reviewed.

Deputy O’Donnell and local TD Joe McHugh had led a revolt against measures which would have seen severely disabled people lose their benefits.

But the Sinn Fein TD accused Fine Gael: “In ancient China there was a form of capital punishment called ‘death by a thousand cuts’ and that is what you are doing to this country.”

The Inishowen man said “fair play to you for fighting the cuts on disability” but said Fine Gael had failed to tax the rich, adding: “The top 1% in this country own 20% of the wealth and nothing was taken off them.”

The budget, instead he said, was an attack on “lone parents, families and ordinary people.”
