PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Christmas Hamper

It was a big day at Portsalon Golf Club on Sunday last 11th December as the members gathered for the traditional Christmas hamper. As in previous years the draw for the tees was carried out on Saturday night and apart for a few not turning out the competition secretary got the show on the road on time. Playing in a variety of weather conditions with a few showers and cold temperatures the scoring reflected the conditions. The overall winner was 9 handicapper Ciaran Mc Fadden with 39 points, runner up Joe Hensey (13) 38 points Gross Connor Connolly (4) 32 points 3rd Shaun Shields (14) 38 points. As all fairways were in play the standard scratch was 36 points. The captain Donal Callaghan thanked everyone for the tremendous turnout. He thanked the office staff who had a hectic morning and a special thanks to Cathal Toland for his sponsorship of the winning hampers. He wished everyone a happy and a safe Christmas.

Gaeltacht League

On Saturday last Portsalon entertained Gweedore in the second match of this seasons Gaeltacht League. Club captain and team captain Donal Callaghan had a few late selection problems, however the Portsalon team emerged victorious with nine matches to Gweedore’s one match. The best scores on the day went to John Shields & Pascal Culle with 44 points, 2nd Stephen Connolly & DP Logue with 42 points 3rd Cathal Toland & B Keeney with 41 points. Portsalon have now played two matches and although both were at home now have 35 points. The next outing in the Gaeltacht league is scheduled for 25th January away to Dunfanaghy.

Events

On Sunday 18th December there is a members competition and on Wednesday 21st December there is gents open stableford competition. Time sheets are in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.

Results

On Saturday the winner of the open competition was Clive Davidson Letterkenny (11) 42 points, runner up Fergal Mc Donald (20) Lisburn 41 points.

Christmas Party

On of the biggest nights in the Portsalon callender is the traditional Christmas party night. Sean Mc Gettigan has put together a fantastic menu and music for the night. For further details contact Sean Mc Gettigan.

Christmas Golfing at Portsalon

The competition secretary has arrange a festival of golf over the Christmas holiday period. The details are as follows; Monday 26th Dec Ladies and Gents Open, Tuesday 27th Ladies and Gents open, Wednesday 29th Gents open, Thursday 29th Ladies and Gents open, Friday 30th Gents open, Saturday 31st Gents open and Sunday 1st January Ladies and Gents open. Drop Off

Over the past few weeks members and visitors have been requested to drop off the 2nd, 7th and 9th fairways. As a result the fairways on the selected holes are improving. The fairways will be clearly identified. Please ensure that you drop off on either side of the fairway.

Placing

All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
