COUNTY councillors put aside differences today to demand that the NRA put the A5 road back on agenda.
Sinn Féin County Councillor and Chairperson of the Council’s Roads & Transportation Strategic Policy Committee, Jack Murray, said that a Donegal delegation put the A5 at the heart of a meeting with the National Roads Authority (NRA) earlier today.
Cllr Murray said: “At today’s meeting with the NRA in Dublin, Donegal County Councillors put politics aside and united in our demand for the A5 to go ahead.
“We presented the NRA officials with a map of Ireland which detailed the location of poverty in Ireland.
“Unfortunately the northwest of Ireland is the area which clearly stands out as being in need of investment
“All other regions of the island are connected to Dublin via a dual carriageway. The northwest, with a population of 500,000 and includes the fourth largest city in the country (Derry) does not.
“We have been abandoned for years in terms of investment in infrastructure and business has suffered as a result.
“We asked the NRA to continue to raise the importance of the NRA with the Roads Minister at every opportunity.
“On our part as councillors, we will continue to fight for investment which will help boost economic growth in Donegal and improve the lives of the people of this county.”
