BURNS NIGHT FOR DONEGAL – WITHOUT THE WHISKY!

DONEGAL will mark Burns night later this month – but the whisky will be replaced with orange juice.

On Saturday January 28th Letterkenny Pipe Band will again host a concert and supper in memory of the great Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

History dictates the haggis – ‘great chieftain o’ the puddin’-race!’ – is borne into the room to the sound of bagpipes and serenaded with Burns, Address To a Haggis followed by a toast with Scotch whisky.

Letterkenny will have all this ably performed by the young members of the band but as it’s a family night the whisky will be replaced with orange juice!

The meal of mince stew, turnips and potatoes (neaps and tatties) will be prepared during the day and served at the interval of the concert.

It will end with tea and tray bakes. The concert opens with the pipe band at 8.30pm.

There is a variety of acts ready to enthral the crowd and hopefully this year’s mix of music, dancing and singing will have something for everyone.

The night will end with Burns and indeed Scotland’s most famous tune Auld Lang Syne. For the chance to enjoy a fine meal and brilliant entertainment in Conwal Parish Hall Letterkenny, all for only €10 contact Mervyn on 0749121493 or John on 0876387840.
