‘I HAVE TO LIVE BESIDE MONSTER WHO BUTCHERED DONEGAL GIRL’

January 19, 2012

A TERRIFIED woman forced to live close to an evil thug who killed a Co Donegal girl says she’s “physically sick” with fear.

The woman spoke to donegaldaily.com after we revealed earlier this year that callous Conor Downey, 47, was freed just eight years into a 12-year sentence for another crime.

Downey murdered innocent Suzanne Reddan in a London flat they shared in 1988.

She was not found until 1992 after Downey confessed to police in England that he had strangled her.

Parts of her body were discovered but her torso was never found.

Downey served just three years in jail for the horrific murder of the young Donegal woman.

When he left jail he returned to his native Cork.

In 2004, Downey was then sentenced to 12 years in jail after being found guilty of attempted rape and indecent assault of a young woman.

Just a few months after Downey strangled Suzanne Reddan in 1988, he broke into the Cork woman’s home and attacked her as she lay sleeping.

He beat her so savagely that gardaí thought she was wearing a horror mask. He also attempted to rape and sexually assault her.

Downey now lives openly in Douglas in Co Cork.

One female neighbour said local people are terrified.

“I felt physically sick when I heard this,” she told us.

“He lives near to me in Douglas and if he likes to break into homes I’m going to be afraid to sleep tonight and every other night,” she said.

“He’s in the heart of the village perfect place for him to meet young girls on a weekend . Can’t believe they would leave a criminal like this free to do the same again to another innocent person.”

She begged: “Can’t anything be done about this? Can he be removed from this area perhaps?”

The answer – put simply – is no.
