The McGarvey brothers Ronan (14) and Conor (11) of Donegal Pens, yesterday watched their dream become a reality.

Donegal Pens new work shop was delivered and erected on site at the family home, with the support of Expert Hardware, who is funding the development.

The excitement was contagious and the boys could hardly contain themselves when they saw what is to be their new plant.

Now, they have the ability to produce more handcrafted pens turned and assembled in the new work shop in the Gaeltacht area.

Commenting on site, Ronan stated “We are thrilled with the new work shop. The office and manufacturing is now all under one roof with ample space for production. Without the sponsorship and support of Expert Hardware, this would not have been possible.”

Alan Grant of Expert Hardware added: “Ronan and Conor are an inspiration to any young person with a business idea who has the passion and commitment to follow through on their vision.

“It is great to see such talent coming through and we as a nation must support, nurture and invest in such talent and NOT discriminate due to age”.

Grant added; Ireland’s future is dependent on the youth of today and we at Expert Hardware believe in the McGarvey Brothers and will give any support we can”.

Donegal Pens was established in September 2010. Since then they have quickly etched out a market for their hand crafted wooden pens, which are individually turned, polished and waxed in their workshop at Loch an Iúir.

With this new infrastructure in place they can now proceed with expanding their business, with a view to increasing exports internationally.

In addition to funding the new workshop, the team at Expert Hardware have also offered to provide marketing and mentoring support to the young brothers as they grow their business.

Expert Hardware with over 40 stores nationwide is also stocking these wonderful and unique hand crafted wooden pens. Having recently sold out, a large order will now be completed with new systems in place.
