Gardaí in Ballyshannon are investigating a single vehicle fatal road smash which has left a teenager dead.

Driver Christopher Kane, 19, died when his Peugeout car hit a bridge on the Station Road, Mountcharles at 2am.

His body has been removed to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Three other teenagers were also hurt but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The road is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardai say it will be some time before the road re-opens today.

“It’s a tough job to go and tell this young man’s parents. It is just horrific.

“There are forensic collision investigators at the scene and the road will remain closed for the rest of the day,” said a Garda spokesman.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071-9858530.
