MAYOR: I’LL PAY MY OWN WAY TO STATES FOR ST PADDY’S DAY

MAYOR Noel McBride today vowed to represent County Donegal in America on St Patrick’s Day – after fellow councillors banned the use of ratepayers cash for the trip.

Cllr McBride, his deputy Cllr Barry O’Neill and a council official were due to travel Stateside in March.

Other parties – including Sinn Fein – have objected to the trip however.

Cllr Jack Murray said he didn’t believe it was a good use of council funds.

However Cllr McBride told us that he would go ahead with the trip – and pay for it out of his own pocket.

Fianna Fail councillor Brendan Byrne however said he was angry that details of the proposed trip were not contained in council minutes for this week’s monthly meeting.

Last year the then Mayor Cora Harvey of Sinn Fein decided not to travel to the States.

However Mayor McBride hit back at the claims, saying they were “outrageous” and he wants an apology from Cllr Byrne.
