Roads in parts of Co Donegal are the worst affected after temperatures dropped well below zero.
Motorists are urged o take extra care on the N56 Donegal/Glenties road and the N13/N15 Donegal/Letterkenny road because of icy conditions. Many back roads and minor routes are very slippy, particularly around Inishowen, Kilmacrennan, Pettigo, Raphoe and the back of Errigal Road to Dunlewey.
Met Éireann says an overnight frost saw temperatures in some areas drop to -5C in some rural areas – one of the coldest nights of the winter so far.
Many secondary routes and back roads are slippy in places.
Temperatures will rise later, but not by much.
Met Eireann is predicting the cold snap will be gone by the end of the week as Atlantic lows push away the Siberian highs.
