It was a case of ‘Here comes the bride…. and another and another’ as 53 ‘brides’ braved the elements for Saturday night’s ‘Wear Your Wedding Dress Again’ Charity Ball.
The evening was organised to raise awareness and funds for the Donegal Action Against Cancer Care and the breast unit at Letterkenny General Hospital.
Leona McGee of the Villa Rose Hotel in Ballybofey, which hosted the event, said the evening was a huge success.
Leona, who wore her own wedding dress, was accompanied by her two sisters, sister-in-law, mother and mother-in-law.
“There was more than 150 people there including 53 brides as well as bridemaids, and mother–of-the-brides.
“It was a fantastic evening. We had a champagne reception, a five course meal, wedding cake, wedding band and a wedding DJ.
“There was a lot of letting out and letting in of dresses but all the girls looked fantastic.
“It was great to wear the wedding dresses again but this time it didn’t have the pressure of being on display because there were lots of girls in their wedding dresses,” she said.
The most mature bride of the evening was Evelyn Nelson who first walked down the aisle 52 years ago.
“I never thought I would be wearing my wedding dress again but we had the most wonderful evening.
“All the girls looked fabulous and it was for a great cause. It was great to see all the different styles of dresses from over the years,” she said.
