The first sod is to be turned today on the long-awaited Finn Valley Leisure Centre.

The 25 metre pool has been mooted for a number of years.

But the reality will come a step closer today on the €10 million project.

Senator Brian O’Domhnaill said he was delighted the project was about to get underway.

“This is a great day for the Finn Valley area with the official Sod Turning and Contract signing of the Finn Valley Leisure Centre Project which comprises of a 25 metre- 5 lane pool project taking place.

“The new complex will add immensely to the superb facilities currently available at the Finn Valley centre and will be a recreational resource which can be enjoyed by all age groups. “

“I was delighted to have played a role in ensuring that funding was approved for this project when Fianna Fáil was in Government. The funding of €3.8 million was officially approved from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in July 2011 with the total estimated cost of the project is in the region of €7 million and the remaining funding being made available from Donegal County Council sources.”

He paid particular tribute to all involved with the project particularly Patsy McGonagle and all the staff at the Finn Valley Centre, the officials within Donegal County Council, the OPW and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
