MAN SENT FOR TRIAL IN INISHOWEN CRASH CASE

The driver of one of the cars involved in a crash near Clonmany in which eight men died has been sent for trial after a hearing Buncrana District Court today.

Shaun Kelly, 23, with an address at Hillroad, Ballymagan, Buncrana, has been charged with causing the death of the seven passengers travelling in his car and another man, Hugh Friel, who was driving the other vehicle, on July 11 2010.

The book of evidence on Kelly was served on him at the courthouse in Buncrana at 10.28am this morning, Garda Carol Doherty told the court.

Inspector David Murphy said the DPP had said that Mr Kelly be sent forward to trial at the next criminal sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court on May 1.

Ciaran MacLochlainn defending said he was still waiting on two exhibits for the case – video and photographic evidence from the scene of the crash.

The case was adjourned until March 8.
