FIANNA Fail Donegal North East TD Charlie McConalogue has joined the chorus of approval for the North’s decision to go ahead with a €400M upgrade of the A5 Dublin to Donegal road via Tyrone.

“Today’s announcment regarding the A5 is of huge importance for Donegal. It’s the most significant announcement for our area since I’ve been in politics,” he said.

“The fact that this project is back on track now is vital. It’s the single most important piece of infrastructure for the northern half of Donegal.

“We need an arterial route, two lane carriageway access, for companies that transport goods in an out of the county, as well as for our own people and for tourism.

“It’s a matter that all the political representatives from the county have been fighting hard for on a unilateral basis, alongside the members of Derry City Council and Omagh District Council. Everybody has spoken with one voice on this.

“Now we must try to ensure the Irish government t links in with the NI governmentt to get the remainder of that road finished in a timely fashion. It’s vital to get work started as soon as possible.”
