GOLF: ROSAPENNA GOLF CLUB NOTES

The Sunday singles competition on the 19th of Feb was played over the Sandy Hills Links and was won by Charlie McBride with 38 pts bot. Runner up was Michael Carr with 38 pts bot. The gross winner was Barry McMenamin with 31 gross pts. Third place was Paddy Boyce with 38 pts.

The front nine winner was Pete McBride Snr with 22 pts and the back nine winner was Jody McHugh with 21 pts.

Well done to our Gaeltacht team who travelled to the Kingdom last Saturday and claimed 6 matches from a possible 10 against Portsalon G.C.

We now have a total of 72 points from 5 matches. There is just one more league match away to Narin & Portnoo  to be played before the Gaeltacht Captains Day also at Narin & Portnoo on Saturday the 21st of April.

The North-West Alliance visited the Sandy Hills

The Mevagh Day Centre Golf Classic will take place over the Sandy Hills Links this Saturday the 25th of February. Registration will take place in the Day Centre in Carrigart from 10.00am with a shotgun start at 11.00am. The entry fee is 120e per team of four.

During the mid week of  Mon 20th – Fri 24th Feb and Mon 27th Feb – Fri 2nd Mar the Sandy Hills Links will be closed and the Valley Nine only will be in play.

The side of the fairways rule will remain in place. The Sandy Hills Links will be open on Sat 25th & Sun 26th of Feb and Sat 3rd & 4th of March.

There will be a club competition on Sun 26th Feb, Sun 4th & Sun 11th March over the Sandy Hills Links. The Old Tom Morris Links is due to re open for full play from Friday the 16th of March, this will be weather dependent.

There is an Open Singles competition scheduled for the Old Tom Morris Links on Saturday the 17th of March. Tee times contact the Pavilion Golf Shop.

On Saturday the 24th of March the Mayors Ball Charity Golf Day (CLLR. Noel McBride) will take place on the Sandy Hills Links.  This is a Ladies & Gents Open Singles stableford with a time-sheet  running all day. €20 entry fee per player to include Soup & Sandwiches.

Charities to benefit from the day include the St.Vincent De Paul, Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

Also on Saturday the 24th the North-West Alliance Captains Day (Mr Noel Callan) will take place over the Old Tom Morris Links from 7.30am – 12.30pm. All members are kindly asked to keep all pull trolleys, electric trolleys and drive buggies well back from the roped off putting green surrounds and all teeing grounds on all golf holes.

All golfers must play from the mats provided on the Par 3’s and not from the turf teeing area directly behind or alongside the mats.

Please take note of the following local rules that are now in play-

Pathways – All gravel pathways are deemed as immovable obstructions. Relief may be taken under rule 24.2b.

Ground Under Repair – Play from all GUR as defined by white lines or any newly laid turf is prohibited. If a players golf ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the players stance or the area of his intended swing, the player must take relief under rule 25.1b.

Abnormal Ground Conditions – An Abnormal Ground Condition is casual water, ground under repair or a hole, cast or runway made by a burrowing animal, reptile or a bird. Relief may be taken under rule 25.1b.

Previous rule on disturbed ground is no longer in play.

Also while winter rules apply, a golf ball plugged in the semi rough may be lifted, cleaned & dropped not nearer the hole.

PGA Professional Noel Callan is available for lessons at the Rosapenna Practice Ground by appointment, all enquires can be made by contacting Noel directly on 0044 7789 157654.
