This is the first time for the orchestra to participate in such an important event where they can meet other orchestras from all over Ireland.
There will be two concerts on the day, one at 1pm for the junior orchestras featuring the Kilkenny Junior Orchestra, Sligo Academy of Music Junior Orchestra, Athenry Junior Orchestra and Coole Music Junior Orchestra and Donegal’s Children’s String Orchestra, and a later show at 6pm for the more senior ensembles.
The Children’s String Orchestra will perform pieces by S. Suzuki, W. Gluck, J.S Bach and also popular traditional songs under the baton of the Spanish cellist and conductor Víctor Yélamo.
At the end of the concert all the junior orchestras come together to play a piece called “UNDER COVER” specially created for this event by Katharina Baker. This piece will be performed from memory by all the ensembles.
The Children’s String Orchestra will be accepting new members in March. This junior ensemble group is open to all string players aged from 7 to 13 yrs old.
