PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

PortsalonPortsalon Results

There was a larger than usual turnout for the Wednesday open played on 15th last. Playing in good weather conditions the winner was Tony Kingston (13) 40 points, runner up Brendan Orr (14) 39 points, Gross John Shields (4) 32 points 3rd Pauric Mc Hugh B/S (8) 39 points. The CSS was 36 points. On Saturday the open competition was won by Eugen Gallagher (18) with 38 points. The CSS was 36 points. On Sunday 26th playing in ideal weather conditions head green keeper John Shields playing off a 4 handicap returned a magnificent 43 points, John despite dropping shots on the 3rd and 4th holes made the turn 3 over and with a level par back nine saw him win on the break of tie from Kevin Mc Fadden (20) with 43 points. Gross went to club Captain D P Logue (5) with 36 points. The CSS was 38 points

 

Events

On Saturday 25th the Portsalon Winter Links takes centre stage at Portsalon golf club. All members of the Winter Links are reminded that their tee times remain as the previous outing and if you are unable to play please contact the clubhouse On Sunday 26th a members competition. On Wednesday 29TH a gents open competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at www.portsalongolfclub.com

 

Gaeltacht League

The Gaeltacht League team entertained near neighbours Rosapenna golf club on Saturday last and the Rosguill team had the short journey across the Mulroy and left with an impressive victory of six matches to Portsalon’s four matches. The best card on the day went to Portsalon’s Eamon Mc Dermott and John Shields. The next outing will be away to Cruit Island which will take place on Saturday 3rd March, team captain Donal Callaghan will have some selection issues for this away match.

 

Newsletter

The first edition of the Portsalon Golf Clubs newsletter has been issued and the newsletter can be accessed through the Portsalon webb page at portsalongolfclub.com. If you have any articles of interest please forward to the editor for inclusion in the next edition

 

Subscriptions

The council wish to remind all members that their fees for the 2012 golfing year are now due. An early payment would be appreciated.

 

Change to Drop Off arrangements

Members and visitors should note that you must drop off the fairways 2,7 and 9 at the nearest point of relief as this has now been designated ground under repair. Under a local rule all golf balls in the areas identified must be lifted and dropped without penalty. It is no longer permitted to use the putter inside the areas identified.

 

All members are kindly asked to keep all pull trolleys, electric trolleys and drive buggies outside the lines surrounding the putting greens. This is try to protect the main playing surfaces as much as possible over the next few weeks..

 

Placing

All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Members and visitors to Portsalon Golf Club should note that on line booking is now available for all competitions at Portsalon at the flick of a button go to portsalongolfclub.com

 

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
