Having reached the semi final stages three weeks ago, they were drawn against Oriel Zone, who have been commanding in the junior game for some three years. Donegal proceeded to out bowl the opposition, winning by seven shots.
In the other semi final, Northern got the better of Mid Antrim. Donegal moved into a 10 shot lead after three ends but Northern proceeded to peg them back and the match was all square after eight ends.
However, Donegal rallied strongly over the last two ends and romped home winners by, again, seven shots. Great credit to the boys and girls who represented the county who certainly did us proud.
The teams were; Rink One; Finlay Marshall, Matthew Kilpatrick, Jonny Crawford and Jamie Glackin. Rink Two; David Bonner, Vanessa McHugh, Gary Glackin and Michael Gallagher. Rink Three; Colin Glackin, Caroline O’Kane, Lisa O’Kane and Samuel Bredin. Donegal are now Irish Inter Zone Ladies and Junior Champions and it has been a great fortnight for the county.
Meanwhile John Quinn, Ballylennon, pictured, won the inaugural Dunfanaghy Singles, which was played in the Ozanam Centre.
Runner up was Richard Soames, Forresters, Killybegs and the semi finalists were John Hegarty, Glenties and Pat McSorley, Strabane CC. Other qualifiers on the night were Lexie Gilfillan, Strabane Pres, Joe Duggan, Dunfanaghy, Bill McKinley, Dunfanaghy, Geoffrey Bustard, Glenmore, Danny McLaughlin, Quigleys Point, Michael Gallagher, Gortahork, Jamie Glackin, Maghery, PJ Gallagher, Burtonport, Patsy Boyle, Burtonport, Helen Foster, Strabane CC, Eddie McGonigle, Gortahork and Bertie Cole, St Johnston BC.
