THERE is outrage today in Inishowen after vandals targeted one of the peninsula’s leading soccer clubs overnight ahead of a big match today.

Carndonagh Football Club have a glamour game against Ballymun United in the quarter-final of the FAI Junior Cup.

And the club had erected a marquee at their St Patrick’s Park grounds in the town to lay on tea and sandwiches for supporters and give a proper Donegal welcome to the Dubliners and their fans too.

But thugs wrecked the marquee overnight.

“Unfortunately not everything goes to plan,” said a disheartened club spokesman today.

“The marquee that was erected yesterday at St Patrick’s Park for the ladies to make tea and sandwiches for supporters today was vandalised overnight.”

He branded the vandals “idiots” and appealed for information.

“If anyone has any knowledge of the idiots who caused the mess please inform the club,” he said.

Gardai in the town are investigating the incident which comes ahead of today’s big game.

After fantastic victories on the road in Dingle and Tramore in The Junior Cup, the club entertain Ballymun United at home in the 1/4 final.
