GOLF: PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Portsalon Golf Club

Gaeltacht League

On Saturday last Donal Callaghan led his Gaeltacht League team to Cruit Island for their fourth round league match.  The match commenced as a gale blew across the picturesque island course and it soon became apparent that these conditions were not suitable to play golf.  With winds howling , sand blowing and waves crashing against the rocks, a decision had to be taken and  after a few holes the match was abandoned a decision greeted favourably by both members of Cruit and Portsalon golf clubs. The rescheduled match is fixed for Sunday 25th March with an afternoon tee off 2 p.m  The Gaeltacht League table is as follows, Rosapenna played 5 have 72 points, Nairn/Portnoo played 5 have 46 points, Portsalon played 3 have 43 points, Gweedore played 4 have 40 points, Cloughaneeley played 3 have 22 points and both Dunfanaghy and Cruit Island have only two matches played. Portsalon’s remaining matches are scheduled for Cruit Island 25th March , Dunfanaghy 31st March at 8.30 a.m  and Cloughaneeley 14th April. All matches must be completed by Sunday 21st April which is the Captains Day and this will be played at Nairn Portnoo golf course

 

Events Busy Schedule Ahead

On Saturday 10th March the Portsalon Winter Links takes centre stage at Portsalon golf club. All members of the Winter Links are reminded that their tee times remain as the previous outing and if you are unable to play please contact the clubhouse On Sunday 11th a members competition. On Wednesday 14th March a gents open competition. Over St Patrick’s weekend the club will stage a number of events, on Saturday 17th there is an open team of four classic any combination, Sunday 18th members competition and Monday 19th there is a gents open competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at www.portsalongolfclub.com

 

 

Match Play

Details of this year’s singles match play event at Portsalon Golf Club have just been announced. The prize on offer to the overall winner of the 2012 singles competition will be free subscription for 2013. The entry fee of €15 must accompany your entry sit back and await the draw. Each round will be played over a calendar month, allowing sufficient time for everyone to get on the course and play their matches.The main prize will be dependent on numbers entering the competition.

 

  Results

The following is the results from last week’s competitions played at Portsalon golf club. On Wedenesday 29th Feb the winner was Vivian Doherty Letterkenyy (10)  37 points, 2nd Justin Greene (14) 37 points Gross Paul Shields (7) 27 points, 3rd James Lynch (18 ) 36 points. The CSS for home players was 35 points and for visitors non counting 34 points. On Saturday the winner of the open competition was J Mc Kenna (21)  Killymoon 36 points, 2nd Odhran Mc Gowan (17) 31 points 3rd John Mc Gettigan (14) 30 points Visitor Paul Smith Rosapenna. On Sunday the winner of the members competition was Michael Shields (18) 40 points 2nd Gerard Mc Gettigan (20) 40 points Gross Eamon mc Dermott (3) 32 points. The CSS was 35 points.

Subscriptions

The council wish to remind all members that their fees for the 2012 golfing year are now due. An early payment would be appreciated.

 

 

Change to Drop Off arrangements

Members and visitors should note that you must drop off the fairways 2,7 and 9 at the nearest point of relief as this has now been designated ground under repair. Under a local rule all golf balls in the areas identified must be lifted and dropped without penalty. It is no longer permitted to use the putter inside the areas identified.

 

All members are kindly asked to keep all pull trolleys, electric trolleys and drive buggies outside the lines surrounding the putting greens. This is try to protect the main playing surfaces as much as possible over the next few weeks..

 

Placing

All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Members and visitors to Portsalon Golf Club should note that on line booking is now available for all competitions at Portsalon at the flick of a button go to portsalongolfclub.com

 

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
