GLENTIES’ 1,024 LITTLE LEPRECHAUNS PIPPED AT POST FOR WORLD RECORD

A super 1,024 leprechauns just wasn’t enough to set a new Guinness World Record in Glenties today.

The tremendous turn-out in the Co Donegal town was the result of months of hard work by the people of the town.

But unfortunately the Donegal attempt was beaten by the people of Bandon in Co Cork who had 1,263 leprechauns.

One of the main driving forces behind the Glenties record attempt, Carmel Doherty, said she was delighted by how well the day went.

“It really was just incredible how well people responded. The sight of more than 1,000 people dressed as leprechauns on the Main Street was just breath-taking.

“People came from everywhere and everyone was on their best behaviour,” she said.

Just four leprechauns were disqualified because they were not properly dressed!

Businesses in the town also reported a great spin-off in recent days due to the influx of tourists.

A number of leprechauns came from nearby Ardara who turned up to show their support to their neighbours.

Ardara will tomorrow attempt to set their own World Record for the greatest number of St.Patricks in one place!
