MAGEE GOALS THE DIFFERENCE AS HARPS GO DOWN TO ATHLONE

Finn Harps failed to capitalise on their vein of good form when they were beaten by Athlone at Athlone Stadium.

Despite a solid display, a brace of second half goals by Noel Magee was the difference between the sides.

It was nip and tuck heading into the final quarter of the game when Magee pounced on a cross to smash the ball home for the opener after 70 minutes.

Harps pressed for the equaliser but Pat Jennings was equal to the Harps forward line, especially veteran striker Kevin McHugh who threatened throughout.

Magee settled matters once and for all when he converted a free kick towards the close’

Peter Hutton;s can take some comfort from this outing knowing that couple of goals was probably the only difference between the sides.

They will now head to Wexford hoping to add to their points tally.
