MARATHON WOMAN MARIA ON TOP OF THE WORLD AFTER OLYMPICS SUCCESS

A Donegal woman has qualified to run for Ireland at this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

Well-known Letterkenny athlete Maria McCambridge qualified after breaking the qualifying time of 2.37 at the Rome Marathon earlier this morning..

Maria, who is married to well-known athlete Gary Crossan had just a few seconds to spare finishing in a time of 2.36.37.

The Letterkenny AC athlete and mother-of-one was delighted by her performance.

Maria, who is originally from Dublin, has already represented at the Olympic Games in in Athens back in 2004.

She said “I am just so delighted to have qualified. I’m really looking for to the Games but there’s going to be a lot of hard work between now and then.”

She is the third Irish woman to run the qualifying time. Dublin’s Linda Byrne, competing in her first marathon in Dublin, qualified for London 2012 after finishing sixth & Ava Hutchinson achieved the qualifying time at the Houston Marathon in January.
