DONEGAL captain Michael Murphy will be fit in time to face Cavan in the Ulster Senior Football Championship after surgery on an injured knee was ruled out.

Murphy was injured in the defeat to Dublin at Croke Park last weekend

Doctors at the Sports Surger Clinic in Dublin did carry out tests – but ruled out the need for surgery.

Surgeon Ray Moran has ruled out a return for the league game against Armagh, putting the Glenswilly player on a six week rehab programme.

Doctors found that the DCU student didn’t sustained any damage to his cruciate or knee cartilage.

In January, Murphy had a corrective procedure to cure a groin injury.
