The North’s Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, will be the main speaker at the county’s main Easter Commemoration in Drumboe.

A spokesperson for the committee said “Thousands of people are expected to attend commemorations in towns and villages across Donegal this weekend.

“The Drumboe Commemoration Committee wishes to invite everyone in the county to join in our commemorations, celebrate 1916 and remember all those who have given their lives in pursuit of Irish freedom.

“We are delighted to announce that Martin McGuinness will be the main speaker at the Drumboe Commemoration on Sunday. Martin, who has strong connections to Donegal, has dedicated his life to republicanism and is recognised worldwide as a leader in the Irish struggle for freedom. As such, we expect a huge turnout at this year’s march.

“It is important that we pay tribute to all of those brave men and women who gave their lives. Easter weekend is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many and rededicate ourselves to the legitimate and achievable goal or Irish Unity.”
