Protest groups from around the country are being asked to arrive in Eyre Square at 1pm tomorrow, Saturday, before marching to the Bailey Allen Hall of NUI, where the conference will take place.
“We could see a larger turnout for this conference than the number who turned out in Dublin recently in protest at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis, because while Fine Gael may have felt secure in the capital, Labour are holding their conference in the West,” said PRO Ryan Stewart.
“Rural Ireland will not miss this opportunity to deliver it’s message loudly and clearly, when the junior partner in government are congratulating themselves on our doorstep.”
Chairperson Seamus Kee added: “This will be of particular significance due to the pressure that we in rural Ireland are under at the minute.
“We all know what the issues are from the household charge to the septic tanks, high unemployment, emigration and much much more, and we as a equal citizens in Ireland are angry that we are being treated with contempt by this government. Labour are part of the problem, and we’ll let them know it.”
“We are asking that anyone planning on attending the protest in Galway, pensioners in particular to use their travel card, while they still have it, to travel free of charge on Bus Eireann and other public bus services. They can bring someone with them for free as well. Money is tight for everyone, and buses around the county are being organised by our group as well.”
