Junior Ladies All-County  League

TERMON 4– 13   CLOCH CHEANN FHAOLA   2–6

BY JAMES TREARTY IN TERMON

Termon’s Ladies Sister act  propels them to victory

Termon fielded an astonishing four sets of  sisters in this win over Cloch Cheann Fhaola .

Not to be out-done in the statistics – the visitors fielded two mother and daughter combinations of their own.

Maura and Martina Kelly, Debra and Celine McDaid, Caroline and Roseleen  Gallagher,  Anne, Lisa and Aileen McGlynn were too  strong for Clough Chean  Fhola  at  the  Burn Road  on  Friday evening  in  a  trilling   junior  Ladies  football  game.    End  to  end  stuff  was the  order  of  the  day  with  Karen  Feeney   Cloch Cheann Fhaola’s  and Termon’s  Grainne  Mc  Cafferty   providing  the  supporters  of  both  teams  with  some  fine  moments.

Aoife Ryan  from  another  famous footballing  family opened  Termon’s  account  on five  minutes, only   for  Catriona  Coyle  to  level  matters.

Then  in  what  would  be  an  unique  combination on  the  field  of play   where  mother  and  daughter  Mary  and  Amy  Harkin  combined   for  the  former county  star  Mary  to  score   Cloch Cheann Fhaola ‘s opening goal  to put  some  light  between  the  teams.  Termon  clawed  back  a  point only  to  see  Lauren  Gallagher net  for  the  visitors  following  some  poor  Termon  defensive  work.   Cloch Cheann Fhaola  who  were  now in  the  ascendency wasted many  chances before  up  stepped  the  youthful  Holly  Mc  Daid.  with  a point.

Laura  Gallagher  replied  before  Lisa  Mc Glynn  put  Termon  ahead  with  a fine  goal.  Holly  Mc Daid  provided  Grainne  Mc Cafferty  with  two  passes  which  Mc Cafferty  converted  with  style, to leave  halftime  Termon  2–5  Falcarragh  2–2

First  out  of  the  traps  were  Termon  in the  second  half  with  Sharon  Mc Glynn  adding  to  Termon  account,  Holly  Mc  Daid  and  the  play  everywhere  Karen  Feeney  exchanged  points , before  the  move  of  the  game  commenced.  Orla  Trearty  intercepted a  goal  bound  shot.  Her  clearance  reached  Shauna  Kelly on  the  twenty  metre  line.  Kelly   inter passed the  length  of  the  field  before  placing   a lob  over  Catriona  Mountgomery   in the   Cloch Cheann Fhaola  goal . Feeney  replied with  a  minor  for  Falcarragh before  Anne  mc Glynn put  matters  beyond  Falcarragh’s  reach   with  a  goal.  Grainne  Mc Cafferty   and  Roseleen  Gallagher  extended  Termon  lead before   Karen  Feeney  replied  for  Falcarragh.  In the  dying  moments Mary  Harkin   had  a minor  for  Falcarragh when  a  goal looked possible  to   leave  the  final  score  Termon 4–13  Falcarragh  2–6

This  score line  did  not  reflect   Cloch Cheann Fhaola ‘s  contribution  to  this  game. Indeed  in  the  opening  quarter Cloch Cheann Fhaola  were  to   the fore  in  all sections  and  indeed  the  management  team can  take  heart  from  a  fine  display  particularly  from  Karen  Feeney, Catriona  Coyle, and  Amy  Harkin  while  up  front  Mary  Harkin Edel  Curran  and Lauren  Gallagher  tried  hard.

Termon  who had a  mix of  experience  and  youth  tried  hard  and  once  Harry  Mc Glynn’s  charges settled and   got  to  grips  with the  fast  running Falcarragh  team in  the  opening  quarter Termon’ s  experience  showed. The  Kelly  sisters  Maura   and  Martina were strong  in defence. At   midfield Grainne Mc cafferty and Sharon  Mc Laughlin had a  great hour  while  up  front   Helen Vickery was  very  forceful  with  Holly  Mc Daid, Shauna  Kelly  and  the  Mc Glynn  sisters  the  pick of  the  rest.
