HARPS BEAT LEAGUE LEADERS TO PUT THEMSELVES IN FOURTH PLACE

What a difference a few weeks make!

Finn Harps were struggling to even get one positive result not so long ago.

But tonight they convincingly beat league leaders Longford Town and climbed to fourth place in the league.

The Ballybofey side were full value for their 3-1 win and are now just four points off the pacemakers.

Longford took the lead after just fourteen minutes through Alan Kirby at what was a poorly-attended game at Flancare Park.

But Harps buckled down but got no reward before the break.

Longford lost their keeper Craig Hyland after he took down Paul Tracey on the edge of the area.

From the resulting move, Tracey curled home the free kick to make it 1-1.

Kirby continued to threaten for Longford but Harps kept their cool at the back.

They were rewarded again in the 79th minutes when McBride nipped in to make it 2-1.

Not even he yellow card for taking off his shirt to celebrate could ruin McBride’s night.

It looked like it was going to stay that way until the final whistle but there was time for Harps to put even more gloss on the scoreline.

Blain Curtis keeps his strength and composure as he beats Noel Haverty in a one on one to make it 3-1.

Who said the league is over yet?

Cmon the Harps!
