The amazing story of a WW2 spitfire ditched in a bog in Inishowen will be told on BBC One television next Monday.

The story is part of a three part series ‘Dig WW2 with Dan Snow’ which investigates the history of the second world war.

And the story of Bud Wolfe, the American pilot who ditched his spitfire in remote Inishowen, will be part of the first programme.

The fascinating story will see Snow interview local experts as they carry out the delicate operation of digging the spitfire from the bog.

It will also show how experts were able to piece back together one of the original machine guns from the war plane and fire it again.

Dig WW2 with Dan Snow will be shown next Monday at 9pm on BBC One.
