BEO! by Caoimhe Ní Chathail

The RCC, Letterkenny will once again host BEO tomorrow night – Friday.

This BEO is set to be one of the biggest and most successful however, as it coincides with the final of the national BEO competition.

Schools from around the country were set the task of organising their own BEO concerts, all while promoting the cúpla focail Gaeilge.

The schools; Gaelcholáiste Chill Dara, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Grennan College, Pobalscoil na Rosann, Bridgetown Vocational College and St Columba’s College will all be in attendance on Friday as the greatly anticipated winner will be announced.

With €5000 up for grabs, this is sure to be a heated competition! Judging each school’s presentation will be a number of special guests, each having achieved great success in their chosen fields. Among the judges are journalist and broadcaster, Una Mullally and former marketing manager of CBS Ireland, Jackie Hayden.

There is of course much excitement surrounding the BEO concert itself.

Dublin band ‘Storyfold’, who have achieved much success on national airwaves and have been nominated for two IMTV awards, will play. Lead singer, guitarist and 2FM radio presenter Paddy Mc Kenna recently gave BEO a great plug on his show ‘Weekenders with Ruth Scott & Paddy Mc Kenna’. It seems he’s really looking forward to both judging and performing and we’re sure they’ll provide a fantastic show on Friday night.

Dirty 9s, who have played at many BEO events in the past are also part of Friday night’s line-up. Their ‘Acoustic/Indie/Rock’ music is sure to get the crowd moving!

BEO veterans ‘More Than Conquerors’ will also make the trip to play in front of what can now only be described as a firm Letterkenny fanbase and are sure to cause much excitement.

Local band ‘Jamaican Vampires’ will also be in attendance showing off their amazing musical talent.

Friday is sure to be another success for BEO. With the excitement of both the greatly anticipated final of the BEO competition and yet another stellar concert, tickets are sure to sell out quickly. Make sure to purchase your tickets from any representative of Coláiste Ailigh, Loreto Convent or St. Eunan’s College and join us for BEO, starting at 7 o clock in the RCC on Friday night!
