OATFIELDS IS GONE BUT WE CAN SAVE THE BUILDING – HARTE

Senator Jimmy Harte has called on the new owners of Oatfield Building to maintain the facade to reflect the history of the sweet factory and its role in Letterkenny and Co Donegal.

The factory will finally close on May 27th in what will be a sad day for the town after decades of sweet production.

The Labour Senator says he hopes the town council will do all in their power to protect the facade of the building.

“The disappointment of the closure of the company is hitting home but the link with the past should not be extinguished.

“I would ask the Town Council to make sue the building facade is maintained and the planners make sure this happens.

“The reported new owners should consider the history of Oatfield sweets and respect the cultural link with the area. Hopefully this will happen “
