DDTV: FROM NEIL DOHERTY AT CELTIC PARK: GARY Hooper scored all five of Celtic’s goals as they duffed Hearts here today on title party Sunday.
The Hoops striker was in sparkling form as the home side was determined to crown a great season with a party.
And party they did.
Hooper bagged two close-range finishes in the opening eight minutes and added a penalty when Joe Ledley was clipped by Arvydas Novikovas before half-time.
It was more of the same in part two as Celtic continued to dominate after the interval and Hooper rounded keeper Jamie MacDonald to score on 66 minutes.
With three minutes remaining, Hooper was in the right place again to complete the scoring….and help spark a great Celtic Park party.
Manager Neil Lennon was delighted with his team’s display and their season as a whole.
“I was delighted with the performance today and it was a fitting way to end the season,” the Celtic manager said.
“Since winning the tie at Kilmarnock we’ve not really had the opportunity to reflect on what we’ve achieved but we can do that now and it’s a fantastic feeling.”
Off the pitch Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has sought to dispel fan concerns on how the club will act in a Scottish Premier League vote on Rangers’ future.
A majority of fans oppose admitting a “newco” Rangers into the top flight.
“We will do what is in the best interests of Celtic Football Club and our supporters, consistent with upholding the interests and reputation of Scottish football,” said Lawwell.
SPL clubs will vote on new financial fair play rules on 30 May.
Rangers were being sold today for just £8.5M.
A consortium headed by the former Sheffield United chief executive Charles Green has had a bid accepted.
