‘BOWLED OVER’ AFTER CLUB GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR CLUBHOUSE

The future of Letterkenny’s Bowling Club looks a lot more secure after years without any premises.

Following meetings with the HSE, Letterkenny Town Council, and the Lawn Bowling Club, the Council have sub leased a site beside the Lawn Bowling Green facility in Letterkenny Town Park to the Bowling club.

The transfer of the site was agreed at Monday night’s meeting of the Town Council.

Welcoming the news Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh said “Letterkenny Lawn Bowling club has an excellent facility in the Town park, this latest development paves the way for the club, to set about fund raising and applying for funding to provide a club house at the facility. The club were previously precluded from doing this, because they did not have an interest in the site.

“The Lawn Bowling club have been making remarkable progress through the divisions of their league; they are now at the stage where they cannot progress any further without having proper changing facilities available at the green. So the transfer of this site to the club is a very welcome and positive development for them.

“I would like to thank John Hayes of the HSE and Paddy Doherty the Town Clerk, for their help in making this happen. I wish the club continued success and hopefully they can now move on and achieve their ambition of having a clubhouse to match the excellent playing facilities.” he said.
