Fanad United defeated Letterkenny Rovers 2-1 in the Ulster Senior League at Leckview Park last night.

Rovers took the lead courtesy of Mark Harkin in the first half after being put through by Johnny Minnock.

Rovers went in at half time a goal to the good but they felt aggrieved that they didn’t add to this score line after it seemed that Darren McElwaine was man handled in the penalty area, but their appeals for a penalty were turned away by Donal McCafferty.

Fanad equalised shortly after the interval after Seimi “Coshie” Friel stabbed home a close range effort after a goal mouth scramble.

United’s Denis Boyle missed a penalty after referee McCafferty had adjudged Rovers Kieran Doherty had handled the ball. Boyle’s low drive was well saved by former Harps Keeper James Gallagher.

McCafferty then awarded Fanad another penalty after another clash which seemed to have been committed outside the penalty area. This time second half sub Eunan Kelly made no mistake from 12 yards out and gave Fanad all three points

The result puts Fanad level on points with Rovers on 6 points along with Cockhill Celtic and Derry City Reserves at the summit of of the league.
