Soccers clubs across Co Donegal are to receive a €100,000 windfall from the FAI.

The donation is to be made to mark the Association’s Festival of Football which takes place in Donegal in July.

The FAI also announced today that its 2012 Annual General Meeting will take place in Co Donegal for the first time when it is held in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, on July 21.

FAI Chief Executive John Delaney made the announcement at County House in Lifford today.

“Since 2007 we have used the FAI AGM as an opportunity to showcase football in the host county through the addition of a week-long Festival of Football. This year, the FAI Festival of Football will run from July 15 throughout Donegal with the assistance of Donegal Co Council.

“So far we have had Festivals of Football in Kerry, Mayo, Monaghan, Wexford and Clare and the format has proved to be very successful. During the week we will take the FAI all over the county and I am delighted that the clubs in Donegal have already embraced this idea enthusiastically.”

Among the events planned are 32 club visits by FAI development officers, coaching staff, officials and well known football personalities, four football fun days in Buncrana, Dungloe, Letterkenny and Donegal Town.and four week-long FAI/eFlow Summer Soccer Schools throughout the county.

Applications are invited for the €100,000 in funds and equipment from all clubs or football organisations based in Donegal from today until June 29 and may be submitted for refurbishment and construction projects or facility renewals.

Consideration will also be given to projects which are currently in progress and which would benefit from an injection of additional funding towards their proper completion.

Announcing details of the Club Grants Scheme John Delaney said: “The Club Support Scheme gives clubs in Donegal a unique opportunity to source equipment and grants. We will announce the grants during the week leading up to the AGM on July 21.”

Around 250 delegates representing every league and divisional association in Ireland are expected to attend the AGM and will arrive in Letterkenny on July 20 ahead of the Delegates Dinner in the Mount Errigal Hotel at which the FAI will announce its Club of the Year and present the Service to Football Awards.
