COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR LIAISON OFFICER AFTER BAKERY STAND-OFF

County councillor Ciaran Brogan has called for a Liaison Officer to be appointed for struggling businesses and the revenue Commissioner’s Office.

The Fianna Fail politician was speaking after a stand-off between the staff of Letterkenny’s Highland Bakery and Revenue officials.

Staff barricaded themselves into the Killyclug premises yesterday after Revenue officials tried to remove machinery form the premises.

Owner Kevin Bradley told Donegaldaily that he is working with the Revenue to try and pay and outstanding bill.

Cllr Brogan said more lines of communication need to be opened to sort such issues.

“I think we need to appoint someone like a Liaison Officer to mediate between parties. It’s no secret that many businesses are struggling.

“But at the end of the day we are talking about jobs and we need to work towards a solution that we are saving jobs and not losing them,” he said.
