GARRET’S RUNNING CAREER GOES BACKWARDS BUT HE’S STILL A CHAMP!

Donegal athlete Garret Doherty has broken his own world record – for running backwards.

The Inishowen man defended his record in Manchester at the weekend and once again came home last – but err first because he was running backwards!

Garret, 33, has been running backwards for three years since he turned around to stop the glare from the sun one day.

Garret can run a mile backwards in less than 7 minutes and says people use three times as much energy by running backwards.

Now his goal is to convince Olympic bosses to include it as an event for future games.

“When I approach these guys in their office and see how passionate I am then they will change their minds,” he said.
