Organisers behind a new foundation set up in the name of missing Donegal girl Mary Boyle hope to use some of the money to help find other missing children.

Locals in Magheroarty in West Donegal have set up the Mary Boyle Foundation to remember the girl who went missing 35 years ago while holidaying in Cashelard near Ballyshannon.

No trace has ever been found of Mary and it remains one of Ireland’s greatest mysteries to this day.

Mary’s heartbroken mother Ann Boyle of Keadue, Burtonport said she hopes some good can come out of her loss for other families struggling to find lost children.

A number of fund-raising events have already been held and more are planned to raise cash for the foundation.

One of the main organisers behind the foundation is Maire Mhic Phaidin.

Ann has agreed to be chairperson of the committee.

She said she is delighted that the community of the local Gaeltacht region has remembered her daughter to this day.

“This amazed me. I was very surprised. Probably no one thought about it before, but it was a wonderful thing to do.
