A massive tornado has struck Donegal this morning.

The massive tornado or wind tunnel struck around 10.30am this morning at Slieve Sneacht near Buncrana.

The tornado, which can be seen clearly for more than three minutes, did touch ground close to the mountain but did not cause serious damage.

The amazing video footage was captured by local girl Niamh O Raw from Umricam.

It is estimated the tornado was more than 700 metres in height and could be seen “twisting” in the middle because of its large size.

Niamh’s dad John O Raw, who teaches computer science ay LYIT, said it was an incredile sight.

“Niamh was out doing her chores trying to earn a few extra euro in pocket money when she noticed the tornado.

“It was an incredible sight and was certainly a very large tornado – ut to 700 metres in height I would estimate,” he said.

John said he wtinessed another tornado on the shores of Lough Swilly last week – just minutes before he witnessed the Killer Whales along with wildlife ranger Emmett Johnston.

“Inishowen and Donegal has so much going for it. Earthquakes, killer whales, Northern Lights and tornadoes – sure where else would you get it,” he said.
