SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT LETTERKENNY’S LOFT SUMMER PROGRAMME

LOFT Youth Project, Letterkenny are planning a bumper filled summer programme again this year.

The 8 week long programme which gets underway on June 26th offers a wide range of activities for 12-18 year olds, from a cookery course, a Get active week, an Outdoor week, the ever popular Rock School and the all new AMP project, which offers young people the opportunity to try out DJing, Graffiti, spoken word, street drumming and dance.

There will also be a range of other weekly groups and activities that young people can take part in, such as the Loft Fashion group, weekly jam sessions and weekly art workshops, so you have absolutely no reason to say you will be bored this summer. If you would like to sign up to a particular course do so now, as places are limited.

An information evening will be held at the LOFT on Friday the 15th of June. The LOFT Youth Project is a partnership project jointly managed by Donegal Youth Service and Foroige and is funded by the Health Service Executive. The full details of the programme are as follows:

 

Cookery

Two camps, 26th – 29th June (Ages 16-18) and 10th – 13th July (ages 12-14); with a focus on healthy eating, learn to cook meals from scratch and enjoy eating the fruits of your labour at the end of each workshop!

HIFY – Emotional & Mental Health

From the 3rd to 6th July Ages 13-16); the members of the HIFY team (Health Initiatives for Youth) will deliver peer led workshops and activities. The camp will combine lots of opportunity to learn about and discuss emotional and mental health with fun activities, drama, outdoor pursuits and trips.

REAL U

10th- 13th July for ages 16 – 18 Years; A Week packed with the REAL U Programme (Relationships Explored And Life Uncovered) and fun packed activities and trips. 12 – 5pm Tuesday – Friday

Get Active

17th – 20th July for ages 13 to 15, Get Active is a fun packed activity week where young people will be encouraged to participate in various activities and encourage healthy lifestyles. The emphasis will be on having fun and making friends while learning valuable skills.

Rockschool

24th – 27th July (Ages 12-18); If you play music, sing or would like to develop your music skill, Rockschool is ideal. With tuition in guitar,, bass, drums and vocals as well as various music styles, recording techniques and master classes with local musicians. The combination of tutorials and jam sessions, theory and performance always makes Rockshool a popular choice.

Art & Music Project (AMP)

31st July – 3rd Aug (Ages 12-18); would you like to try some new art or music techniques or develop your existing skills? With workshops in DJ skills, Grafitti, spoken word, rap, dance , photography and much more. AMP will be a great opportunity to let your creative side shine.

 

Outdoor Week 7th – 10th August for ages 15 – 17 ; Not going away this year but still want to have some great summer experiences? This week we are going spend 98% outside taking part in fun packed activities, challenges and learning a bit about our nature and how to survive in the wild. Don’t forget; there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing… so sign up and show us how tough you really are!

It’s A Small World

14th – 17th Aug (Ages 13 – 16); Learn skills from around the world and combine these with a closer look at our local community. We will also be marking National Heritage Week. Activities include sport, music, art and more.

Multi-Activity Week

21st – 24th Aug Ages 12 – 18); This week will be packed with activities, challenges, competitions and more with a big day out to round off the summer holidays

 

Transition Programme

Two day programme for students making the transition from primary to secondary school. The topics covered include preparing for change, dealing with bullying; understanding timetables, building friendships and creative arts activities.

3rd & 4th July, 10th & 11th July, 18th & 19th July or 24th & 25th July

 

 

Groups & Courses

LOFT Fashion Group/Customising Clothes: Thursdays 6pm – 8pm

Computer Programming Wednesday s 6pm – 8pm

Jam Session Wednesday s 6pm – 8pm

Art workshops Saturdays 4pm-6pm

Geek Week 18th – 21st July (activities daily)
