ANGER AS ANOTHER CHURCH IS WRECKED BY VANDALS

There has been another horrific vandalism attack on a church in Co Donegal.

St Mary’s Church in Sessiaghoneill in Ballybofey was targeted over the weekend.

A considerable amount of damage was caused after vandals broke into the building.

It follows another attack on St Lugadius Church of Ireland building in Clonleigh in Lifford last week.

Vandals kicked in the door and then set about smashing pictures of former clergy as well as attempting to break open a safe with a rock.

The vandals then tried to set the church on fire by stuffing a t-shirt in the keyhole of a wooden door and setting it on fire.

Details of the attack on St Mary’s Church in Ballybofey are still unclear.

The parish priest is well-known cleric Fr Patsy Arkinson.

One parishoner who contacted donegaldaily.com said people were disgusted by what had happened.

“You hear about a lot of vandalism but you never think they will attack a church.

“There was no money there and they knew that. They just wanted to cause as much damage as they could for no other reason that pure thuggery.

“Everyone around here is very upset and very annoyed by what has happened,” said the woman.
