Healthcare company Abbott is to axed 29 jobs at its Sligo plant. There are currently more than 400 people employed in the diagnostics facility there.

Today’s announcement does not affect staff at its Donegal business.

The company says there is over-capacity in the manufacturing area of its Finisklin plant and is seeking the voluntary redundancies in both the manufacturing area and support roles.

Abbott employs almost 4,000 people in 13 sites in eight counties including at Donegal Town, but says the announcement regarding the Finisklin plant in Sligo does not impact on any of its other sites.
