The Rosapenna Golf Club Senior team of Enda Kennedy, Donal Boyle, Marty McDermott, Frank Casey Jnr & Con Boyce have reached the Ulster Semi Final of the Irish Senior Cup for the first time in the 112 years of the competition.
The team travelled to Murvagh (Donegal G.C) last Sunday to face the leading qualifiers Royal Portrush and put in an extremely impressive performance to win 5-0 (19 holes) in the morning match.
In the other morning match Ballybofey/S G.C beat Rathmore G.C 4-1 to set up an all Donegal Ulster quarter final after lunch.
During a very tight match there was never much in any of the games and Rosapenna came out on top winning the first, third and fourth matches to advance to the Ulster Semi Final which is due to be played in Portstewart Golf Club on Sunday the 19th of August.
This is the first time Rosapenna has reached the Ulster semi finals having reached the quarter finals just once before four years ago.
There was only one other qualifying venue (from four) holding matchplay rounds on Sunday the 10th and that was Moyola Park G.C where the home team beat Galgorm Castle 4-1 to also make the Ulster semi finals.
The other two venues, Malone G.C & Tandragee G.C will hold the matchplay rounds on Sunday the 24th of June where after the draw for the semi finals will be made. At Malone G.C Belvoir Park play Dunmurray and Clandeboye play Shandon Park. At Trandragee G.C Lurgan play Banbridge and Tandragee play Warrenpoint.
