After an intensive eight week training schedule, the Moti8LK contestants are primed and ready to do battle with the roads, tracks, lakes and mountains of Gaelforce North….

On Saturday next, the group of nine (of which none has ever competed previously in a triathlon of any kind) will complete a grueling course of running, cycling, hiking (up Mount Errigal) & kayaking across Dunlewy lake. The total distance they will cover is 42 kilometres.

To put this challenge into perspective, all of the nine only began training on May 1st and at this stage found it extremely difficult to complete a jog of more than 5 minutes. On Saturday they will be completing the triathlon which will take up to four hours of constant endurance.

A final fundraising cyclothon will take place on Wednesday June 20th at Kelly’s Mountain Top Centra, involving the nine celebrities who will partake in a final open training session. Tickets for the Motiv8 raffle will be available for sale, with all profits raised going to Donegal Action for Cancer Care.

Speaking in the build up to the final Gaelforce Challenge, Motiv8 Fitness Proprietor and Chief Group Trainer Nigel Drein stated ‘the work and dedication put in by all our of Motiv8 LK Contestants has been incredible. Not only have they trained hard, but they’ve also encouraged others and really bonded together, as well as helping to raise fund for our nominated charity Donegal Action for Cancer Care’.

The well-known Motiv8 LK athletes include Apprentice Finalist and Media Box Owner Joanne Sweeney-Burke, Town Mayor Gerry McMonagle, RPM Presenter Toni Kelly, Donegal GAA Coaching Officer Mick Murphy. In addition, a number of local entrepreneurs John Watson of Watson Hire, Barry Mackey of Sign of The Times, Gavin McDaid, Greenlight Media, Cathal Sheridan, C&M Embroidery and Paul Rodgers of Letterkenny Glass.

On Saturday June 23rd once the event has been completed, Motiv8 LK contestants will get together for a well-deserved after-party in Green Room live music venue, Letterkenny (upstairs from Voodoo Bar) where the Motiv8 LK raffle will also take place. All Welcome!

Motiv8 LK would like to thank Letterkenny Shopping Centre, Kellys Mountain Top Centra, Club Voodoo and Donegal Daily who have also assisted greatly in helping to promote the Motiv8 LK Challenge.
