BY JAMES TREARTY: Termon Ladies renowned never say die attitude, was put to the test at Lifford on Sunday.
As Termon rolled into Lifford a black weather cloud hung over the border town and things did not get much brighter for the Burn Road outfit as Cathal Magee’s Lifford who were table toppers going into this game, opened brightly and were 1–2 up thanks to a Haley Doherty goal and a brace from Eamy Martin before Termon opened via Tara Mc Daid. But Lifford piled on the agony and a great display of by Emma Carlin say Lifford go in at the break leading 1–4 to 0–5, Lifford’s other scorers being Haley Doherty . Termon first half contributors were Tara Mc Daid Grainne Mc Cafferty and Helen Vicory who all posted minors.
Harry Mc Glynn’s half time team talk which was later described as a All Ireland halftime pep talk both in the tone and content, bore instant results for Termon who faced into the Sperrin mountains in the second half. First to post a minor for Termon was Tara Mc Daid . Sharon Mc Laughlin took time out from curtailing Emma Carlin to raise another Termon white flag. Mc Glynn who made some substitutions and positional changes and these bore instant fruit. Termon were now getting on top at midfield with Dara Kelly and Fiona Mc Laughlin having the upper hand. Lisa Mc Glynn, Helen Vicory, Grainne Mc Cafferty all added points interspaced by goals by Dara Kelly helped to settle this Termon team. Termon’s backline of Maura Kelly, Orla Trearty, Martina Kelly and the outstanding Ann mc Glynn were now in a commanding position. Shauna Kelly and Aileen Mc Glynn had some fine moments.
But Lifford were not intent on giving up a table topping position and Eamy Martin raised Lifford’s hopes when when she opted for points when Caroline Gallagher’s goals looked very inviting. Indeed Lifford wasted several scoring opportunities from well placed positions in the second half, The Martin sisters for Lifford give a fine display of power packed football. Paula Leary with Haley Doherty had a fine games. But as referee Gerard Mc Hugh sounded the final whistle Termon were victors on a final score of Lifford 2–4 Termon 2–14 For Termon Vicory, Mc Cafferty, the Gallagher sisters and Lisa Mc Glynn all stood out when players had to be counted.
