A CO DONEGAL pensioner has died after a car crash.
Eithne Gallagher, who was 82, was a passenger in a car which collided with a lorry at Cliffoney on the main road between Bundoran and Sligo on Wednesday.
Gardai say the crash victim is from Ballyshannon.
Her husband Jim, 86, a former Co Donegal GAA star was injured. He was driving the vehicle
Gardai in Sligo are appealing for witnesses following the crash which also left the drivers of both vehicles in hospital.
A spokesman said: “At approximately 1.30pm a female aged in her 80s was seriously injured when the motor car she was passenger in collided with a lorry on the N15 (Sligo – Bundoran route) near the Village of Cliffoney.
“She was taken by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The drivers of both vehicles were also taken to hospital.”
Mr Gallagher captained Donegal to its 1952 Dr Lagan Cup success. He also represented Ulster in the Railway Cup.
Forensic collision investigators are at the scene and diversions are in place.
