A Donegal woman whose house was burgled had to drive a Garda to her home because he didn’t have access to a patrol car.
The woman arrived to find her home in Manorcunningham wrecked after it had been entered by burglars.
The woman contacted her husband who told her to contact the Gardai.
When she did so she was told by Gardai in Newtowncunningham that they did not have access to a patrol car at the time.
The woman then went and collected the Garda who carried out an investigation into the crime.
The situation has been slammed by local county councillor Paul Canning who said the area is drastically undermanned by Gardai
“This is a terrible situation when something like this has to happen in order for a crime to be investigated.
“I am not blaming the Gardai but something drastic needs to be done.
“We have a situation where we only have one patrol car between a number of stations and it’s juts not good enough,” he slammed.
When asked to comment on the matter, a spokesman for the Garda press office said they did not comment on third party reports.
Manorcunningham has been hit by a spate of crime in recent weeks including the burglary of a blind pensioner, the robbery of a chip shop and the theft of three cars form Colm Dillon Car sales.
