DONEGAL BOSTON GFC NOTES

Senior Football Championship

Donegal Vs Wolfetones

Donegal were narrowly defeated by the Wolfe Tones yesterday in what was their first loss of the season. It was an exciting game of football that was not short of some heated exchanges.

The first half saw a well taken goal by Derek Maguire and Donegal looked like they may have had the edge over the Tones. Ciaran Williams had a missed chance at goal when the ball hit the post and it was point for point between the teams. White, Mc Guire and Clancy finished with 4 points and at half time the sides were drawn at 1-04 to 0-07.

The Wolfe Tones were on a mission in the second half with three successive points and Donegal were struggling to break through their defense. Ferghal Clancy brought the Tir Conaill men back to within a point but it was not enough.

Final Score : Donegal 1-07 – Wolfetones 0-12

Donegal: P. Boyle, M Canny, J Gallagher, K Mulhern, G Reynolds, K Mc Colgan, B. White, B. Donnelly, D. Maguire, S O Hanlaon, F Clancy, K. Williams, G. Friel

Wolfe Tones: R. Mc Keown, P. Mc Guirk, D. Dalton, B. Kinnahan, K. Lynch, F. Conway, G. Brilly, K. Dias, C. Carr, M. Farrell, M. Newman, B. Brogan, J. Doyle

Donegal Jr B Vs Aidan Macanespies

Donegal Junior Bs were the favorites in their clash against Aidan Macanespies at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton last Sunday.  An unsteady start however saw Donegal kick several wide balls but it was not long before the Tir Conaill men settled.

Urris man Brian Kelly was a welcome return to the squad having recovered from a knee injury which left him out for the beginning of the season.

Neil Brummie and Jonathan Byrne delivered well to the forward line and points were flowing from Pauric Mc Laughlin and Ryan Mc Cready. Mc Cready scored four in quick succession and netted a goal to finish off the first half in Donegals favor.

Aidan Macanespies were an improved side at the start of the second half, scoring a goal within two minutes but their domination was short lived with points again from Mc Laughlin and Mc Myler.

A Chance at goal came for Macanespies when they won a Donegal kickout but the shot went just wide of the post.

A point from Jonathan Byrne and another from Pauric Mc Laughlin was racking up the scoreboard and Donegal were leading comfortably with only minutes to go.

Final Score

Donegal 1-14 Aidan Macanespies 2-05
